Result of Church Vote: Walnut Ridge Says “Yes!”

On Sunday morning, November 11, during our worship services at both campus, members of Walnut Ridge voted on the Pastor Search Committee’s recommendation that our new Senior Pastor would be Erik Erby.

With overwhelming affirmation, our church voted 93% to 7% to confirm the recommendation of Pastor Erik as our next Senior Pastor! After the votes were counted, the position was officially offered to Erik, who joyously said “yes!”

Walnut Ridge Baptist Church looks forward a continued emphasis on reaching out to Mansfield, Texas, and all the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Pastor Search Committee Nomination

Recommendation Announcement 10/28/18

On behalf of the Senior Pastor Selection Committee, thank you Walnut Ridge family for praying with us and for us as we have walked through this process. Thank you for your insightful comments, words of encouragement, and trust. With you we have prayed for wisdom, direction, and clarity as we have met and searched for His will for our church. God has been so good to us, and today we come before you to present the candidate He has put on our unanimous hearts.

In light of Randy’s retirement effective November 4th and per the bylaws of the church, the recommendation of Senior Pastor Selection Committee constitutes a nomination for the office of Senior Pastor. The election vote will take place on Sunday, November 11th, two Sundays from today, in specially-called meetings at the end of each worship service that morning. The voting will be done by yes/no ballot

The Committee initially received and reviewed over fifty resumes submitted either directly to us or via one of the three links we posted. We also listened to or viewed numerous sermons posted online. And at a pivotal point in the search, we sought out and met with a Southern Baptists of Texas Convention consultant who specializes in pastor placement. It was in that incredible meeting we received clear validation of God’s direction to pursue the very first candidate that applied!

As the Pastor Selection Committee we looked for someone who not only would embrace the footprint created under Randy’s leadership and vision, but who would also look to expand that influence as we move forward as the body of Christ in our community and everywhere else God would have us go. We know this candidate, together with his wife and family, will carry on the DNA of Walnut Ridge and add some twists of his own to our already special culture. But above all else we are confident in his love of God, his love of God’s Word, his love of people, his leadership, and his ability and passion to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with everyone.

In Numbers, Chapter 27, Moses has been made aware his time as the leader of God’s people is coming to an end and that a new leader must be named. Starting with verse 15:

Moses said to the Lord, “May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all mankind, appoint a man over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead then out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd”.

So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence”

Well Eleazar the priest couldn’t be with us today, but the Senior Pastor Selection Committee of Walnut Ridge, in unanimous agreement and of one accord, is here to stand before you today to announce that our nomination for the next Senior Pastor of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church is Pastor Erik Erby.

Pastor Erik Erby
While most of you have heard Erik preach and some of you know him fairly well, we want to share a little of his life story with you.

• Erik was blessed to grow up in a strong Christian home and accepted Christ at a young age. He has a beautiful family…Kama his wife, daughters Paxton and Jensyn, and son Silas. His parents are active volunteers in our church: Bruce and Brenda Erby.

• Erik is a Mansfield guy! He went to Mansfield schools, was Homecoming and Prom King at Mansfield High School his senior year, and has even been inducted into the MISD Athletic Hall of Honor! And prior to coming on staff here in January, he was a small business owner here locally for more than a decade.

• Erik is a Walnut Ridge guy! He basically grew up in our church…from the small sanctuary with pink carpet on Country Club to today, Walnut Ridge has been his church home. Randy has been his mentor and friend for some 21 years.

• If we had to say what best describes him the best…Erik is a “Say Yes to God” guy!

• When asked to become a volunteer leader with Young Life here in the Mansfield area back in 2006, he said “Yes!” Together with Kama, they ministered to students of our area for some 7 years and helped create the strong Young Life organization that is still in place in our community today.

• When asked to become a Teaching Pastor here at the Ridge in 2014, Erik said “Yes”! From 2014 through December of 2017, Erik led either one or both of the Sunday services in our South Sanctuary, preaching some 40 sermon series of around 175 individual sermons. AND…he did this on a volunteer basis!

• In December of last year, when asked to come on staff here full time as our Pastor of Outreach and Evangelism, Erik said “Yes”!, knowing it would mean transitioning out of his own company.

As a Committee we were obviously drawn to Erik in many, many ways. But as a closing remark, we see in Erik the future of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. And on Sunday, November 11th, it is our hope you will agree with us and say “YES!”
